For two decades it promoted cutting edge security research through a carefully curated program, with the aspirational goal of being a globally competitive hacker con for the community. The conference was limited to a maximum of 99 attendees including speakers and organizers, with core values centered on independence — no sponsor could affect the agenda, and speaking slots were never for sale. It was organized by hackers, for hackers.
